Nebuchadnezzar died peacefully, and in power, in 562 BC. None of his successors did. Nebuchadnezzar’s son Amel-Marduk succeeded him (see 2 Kgs 25:27–30), but ruled only two years (562–560 BC) before his brother-in-law Neriglissar (560–556 BC) replaced him. After four years, Nebuchadnezzar’s son Labashi-Marduk ruled for a short while before Nabonidus (556–539 BC), who was perhaps another son-in-law of Nebuchadnezzar (Dougherty 1929:60–63;
